Faqs
Who can take part?
In general: it is open to everyone who: • feels more than comfortable with FileMaker Development and • is willing to share thoughts, techniques, files etc. (even jokes are accepted ;o) But please bear in mind that attendees are highly skilled developers who meet and talk about all things FileMaker on a personal base because they trust each other! … and don't want to start at the primordial soup to explain things… It is NOT open to someone who just listens and never shares any of its own work, thoughts or even comments! There is certainly a difference between being shy and being "just taking". |
How do I take part?
Please click the "CLICK HERE TO REGISTER"-button at the Home page or the "Register" in the "Account" menü ONCE REGISTRATION IS OPEN Then provide the required data (and please use a meaningful Username) and after your registration is approved you get an Email with the details to log in. After you have logged in you can edit your account data or post a session. |
Whom else is taking part?
A full list of confirmed Attendees can be found here
|
What if I'd like to take part but have nothing to tell?
If you have nothing to tell because you are not willing to tell: Then maybe that's not the right place for you! Attendees are here because they SHARE and therefore get something back from the others. Not sharing is against the spirit of this event! If you have nothing to tell because you feel frightened standing in front of a silent audience: Don't worry! |
Is there a special event discount at the Hotel(s)?
Unfortunately we can't offer a discount or special rate on the hotels around. In the early years we were negotiating a "Special event rate" but as it turned out in the end, booking via any of the big websites gave a cheaper rate than we ever got, for the same hotel at the same time! In addition just a very small number of people took the chance to use our rate. Therefore we're sorry to say that we stopped doing that! |
How much is taking part?
Taking part in 2024 is 600,- EUR and registering will end Beginning of May. So there is no "Late Owl-Ticket" for 800,- EUR, as it was in 2023. If you are business owner within the EU (except Germany) and have a VAT-ID this is your net. All others add 19% VAT. Issueing invoices will start middle of April. Please read the Sales Conditions carefully! |
What is a "Room moderator"?
These are people who take care of a room for a day and are the Person in Charge for everything what happens there. They carry the key, they look for the right topics/sessions and they will steer the presentation. And besides all that they will give the room a "special flavour" of their own/their company/their country. With the things learned from last year, only certain rooms will have a moderator this year. They will be named on the top of the schedule and you can refer to them with all things related to that room. |
What about a Privacy policy?
USE OF THE DATA PROVIDED: Due to the new GDPR regulations I hereby inform you that the data you provide during registration will be used for: • Issuing Invoices and • Event related activities (e.g. Mailings, Notifications etc.) The name and origin will be shown on the website at "Attendees". Apart from that, the other data will only be made available to third parties with your approval or if requested by the authorities. You can request a removal of any part of the data, as long as it is not required to fulfill obligations from other law(s). Just use the contact form and let us know! |
What is the deal with the icon selection in the account settings?
These icons once came from an icon set by https://streamlineicons.com called "Nasty Icons" and were used with their permissions. They were on one side meant as persiflage to all these shiny business pictures you see on conference websites and on the other side reflect the character and/or spirit of dotfmp! Not "being nasty" but "being different" and "disrupting your usual thinking", but all in a very positive way! That is our intention! But then we heard complains from people, who neither read what we are nor even attended any dotfmp, that we're anti-woman or even sexist! Just because they saw these icons in the listing. While we really give… something about those people who never tried to understand we were not interested in wasting our lifetime with explaining to those who don't even want to hear arguments. We therefore disabled the icons for public display. |
How do I add or change my session/proposal?
Since the Schedule will be available end of March the following applies from that date on: Assuming you're logged in there are two ways of adding or editing a session: 1) Click on your account name in the main menu and then click "MY ACCOUNT". On your account page you'll see "Your Sessions" and "Your Files". Add and/or edit the appropriate there! 2) Click anywhere on the "Schedule" and add your data right into the popup. |
What kind of session can I present/host?
There are various types of sessions. 1. Core Sessions • A session where it is recommended for all Attendees take part. • We are talking about topics of interest to all. • It is used as starting point to create other sessions or as a closing. • This is the main type of all interaction between the attendees. • It is NOT a "standing in front of a silent audience"! These sessions are more a discussions between attendees. • A moderator (if available) or the presenter starts with a topic and manages the interaction. • He/she/it should be focused to get also the „silent ones“ into a talking. • This is used for 3rd party presentation. • A speaker would like the audience to hear him/her/it out. • Tell the story! |
How long should a session last?
In general there is no time limit for your presentation. From what we've learned the presentation time should not exceed 30 to 45 minutes, followed by a discussion of the same length! If you expect the audience to stay awake make it exciting! And yes, Table dancing and jumping crackers are allowed, but you maybe want to avoid heart attacks in the audience? Just be unique! |
What about a Privacy policy?

Where are the websites from previous years?
Since some were based on other system, so we’re not able to provide all content (yet). The ones we can are as follows: http://dotfmp.com/2014http://dotfmp.com/2015 http://dotfmp.com/2016 http://dotfmp.com/2017 http://dotfmp.com/2018 http://dotfmp.com/2019 http://dotfmp.com/2020 It is our intention to have all data from all previous year available as read only. This may take some more time (and money…). |
Where are the files from previous years?
They are availabel at the bottom of the "Files" page
|
Where are the General terms and Sales conditions?
Here: SALES CONDITIONS: We always strived to keep it simple but the experiences we had to face in 2022 required a change. After you've registered you get an invoice on or shortly after 1 April 2024 which you can pay by Bank Transfer or Paypal within 10 working days. This will cover your attendance but not your accomodation or other travel costs! If the money has not arrived by the time we close registration (1 May 2024) you get one reminder and if it is even not paid then your registration is void and you'll be blacklisted! If you decide short term that you want to join (on or after 1 May) a surcharge of 200 EUR is added to the ticket fee and an immediate payment is required. You can cancel your registration before 1 April without further costs and get a full refund of the money received. If you need to cancel between 1 April and 15 May you can either sell your ticket to someone else (which means you can name someone and as soon that person has registered and paid you get your money I've received back) or get a refund of 50% of the money received for your ticket. Cancellations after 15 May or No shows are NOT REFUNDABLE! If the registrant is not entitled to Reverse charge or the VAT-ID provided during registration is not valid according to https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/#/vat-validation the ticket is billed with 19% VAT. Additional changes to an invoice after issueing and re-issueing it adds 75,- EUR net to the current invoice amount. |
Where should I present?
It really depends on your expectations! ;o) We have 2 tracks and may assigned them to certain topics. But up until then feel free to add your session whereever it feel fine for you! |
What do I get for the ticket?
Buying a ticket helps to cover various costs associated with making the event possible. These are: 1) Location rental (includes refreshment and equipment) While the costs covered end somewhere around 4) or 5) YOUR personal outcome is the event as such (1) to 3). The remaining costs are covered by us! What is not covered at all is the time spend to make it happen! We do not get paid! |
Why should I take part at all?
Due to the nature of this event, people feel much more encouraged to come up with sometimes quite mind-boggling ideas you won't see at "ordinary" conferences! That way quite a few ideas were born here! This is what makes this event so unique and while this may sound so, we are trying hard not to become elitist! Taking part in all that can (but must not) improve your skills! :o) |
What is this VAT-ID thingy?
The VAT-ID is a special number Europeans have received for their company from their tax authorities on request! It is used within member states of the European Union to handle cross border VAT payments. If you’re not sure whether you have a valid VAT-ID check here: VIES VAT number validation It makes it possible to bill attendees without additional VAT, just net. Each receiver of such an invoice has to take care of paying that VAT according to their countries VAT rate. This procedure is the so-called „Reverse charge“. Not providing a VAT-ID or providing one which failes the check on the abovementioned site leads to billing with German VAT of 19%. |
Is there an attendees limit?
dotfmp.berlin is in 2024 limited to 99 people max.
